Frequently Asked Questions
What happens once I give birth?
You or someone from your birth team will give me a call to let me know your placenta is ready. I’ll make arrangements to come pick it up. It will take 3-5 days for me to prepare your placenta and get it back to you. I do my best to get it back as quickly as possible. Some placentas take longer to dehydrate completely. Once I receive your placenta, I prepare it on a disposable cutting board. Slicing it thinly into thin strips, I place it on parchment paper in the dehydrator, utilizing the raw method. Once it’s completely dehydrated, I grind it in my dedicated placenta blender and then put it into capules.
Does it matter where I birth?

Do I need special permission to take my placenta home? No. It is YOUR placenta. You grew it and you have rights to it, just like your baby. In Nevada, there was a court case in which a hospital refused to give a mama her placenta, there was a legal battle and the judge ordered the hospital to give it to the mother. Link here.
What do I tell my care provider?
You only need to tell them you'd like to take it home. Some women plant their placentas under a special tree or bury it. Placenta burial, like encapsulation, has been around for a long time.
If I have a cesarean section birth, can my placenta be encapsulated?
Absolutely! The placenta can be especially beneficial in your healing.
If I have placenta previa/gestational diabetes/Group B strep/pre-eclampsia/high blood pressure, can I still have my placenta encapsulated?
Yes, none of those are a problem for encapsulation.
Do you have experience with food allergies/celiac/etc?
Yes! I, myself, am intolerant to several foods and we are a gluten free home for several of my children and myself.
When should I let you know I want my placenta encapsulated?
You should let me know as soon as you decide, for scheduling, but if you decide after your birth, go ahead and call me. It's not too late as long as you still have it with you!
How do I know I'm getting MY placenta?
I am extremely careful, only working on one placenta at a time and I label your placenta's container with your name.
I or my spouse is in the military, do you offer a discount?
Yes, I do. Contact me to apply the discount.
What if I forget to take them for a day or two?
Go ahead and resume taking them. If you need them, you or your partner will probably notice and remind you to take some. Do try to taper off slowly, rather than abruptly stopping.
Can I do delayed cord clamping?
Yes! You can encapsulate your placenta with delayed cord clamping. It does not affect the quality of your placenta capsules, but it does have major benefits to the baby. IPEN has much information on the topic. About 5-60 minutes after the baby is born, the cord will stop pulsing, telling you that the baby's blood is all back in the baby, providing them with all the rich nutrients in the cord blood.

Where did you get your training?
I started out by encapsulating my own placenta January 2010, then offered to do my friends placentas. I've spent the time since January 2010 doing dozens of hours of research, taking a Biologix Blood Borne Pathogen Safety class & follow OSHA disinfecting guidelines. I have healthcare providers and doulas that will vouch for my professionalism and techniques. I value placentas greatly, they are amazing and a wonderful resource that I am blessed to be able to help mothers utilize them to improve their postpartum experience.
Do you offer training?
